Are you EV Ready?

In a just a few years, electric cars have taken Long Island by storm, and now there's dozens of incredible models to choose from. Your business can reap the benefits of not only targeting a high income category of potential customers, but also generate revenue directly from the installation of commercial EV charging equipment.

What are my Commercial EV options?

We have helped commercial customers all over Long Island install a variety of Level 2 (240V AC) and Level 3 (High Voltage DC) charging equipment. These have enabled their businesses to collect significant daily revenue, increased visitor traffic, and further develop their property's overall value.

We can assist with all stages of the process, including:

  • Site planning
  • Permits and approvals
  • Electrical transformers and infrastructure
  • Equipment selection and installation
  • Financing

  • Are there rebates for EV chargers?

Yes! Many towns, villages, and utilities on Long Island are providing incentives to help Long Islanders get EV chargers installed in their homes. You can learn more on the PSEG website or from your local utility or town website. We can work with you through the process to identify which rebates or other incentives best fit your needs.

In addition, the IRS provides tax credits toward qualified. You should work with your tax professional to learn about the requirements to qualify for such a credit.

  • Where can I install an EV charger?

EV chargers are surprisingly flexible to install, depending on the model you choose from! Typically they will use a standard 240v outlet plug (e.g. NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50) or you can wire them directly into your service panel or subpanel. We've helped customers install them in their garages, outside along an exterior wall, or even freestanding chargers  along the driveway! Working with a licensed electrician gives you incredible flexibility for installing an EV charger or other electrical equipment.

  • What kind of EV charger can I install?

EV chargers come in three sizes to consider for your installation needs, which all have different charging speeds to help juice up your vehicle.

    Level 1 Charging

Level 1 charging is typically anything using an existing 120v system, such as the "emergency" charger that your EV might come with when you buy it. You can use any outlet with a dedicated circuit, but at best you'll be charging at only 1 or 2 kilowatt-hours. This means it will take days to fully charge your EV.

    Level 2 Charging

Level 2 charging typically covers any 240v powered system, which all come in many different shapes and sizes. Typically you'll see these systems start around 30 or 40 amps, and go up to 80 amps depending on the home and electrical service available. A 40 amp installation will charge at a speed around 8-10 kilowatt-hours, meaning you can typically fully charge an EV overnight. Some higher end chargers, with the right electrical service, can provide up to 80 amps of power, or nearly 20 kilowatt-hours of charging. This can charge your car in just a few hours.

    Level 3 Charging

This level of power is something you won't be able to get in your home, but it is available for commercial sites and large residential buildings. Level 3, or "DC Fast Charging" uses direct current instead of the AC current in your home to charge the EV's battery. These systems can push anywhere from 50 to 300 kilowatt-hours of power into your car, charging it in a matter of minutes! We've helped clients like Huntington Hyundai install their DC fast charging system.

  • Do I need a permit for an EV charger?

Depending on where you live, different rules apply for the permitting needed to install an EV charger.

    Utility Requirements

Typically, your electrical service is handled by either a major utility (such as PSEG LI or NYC ConEd) or a local village utility (such as Rockville Centre or Freeport Electric). They will not typically need to be involved in an EV charger installation, but you may want to contact them about potential rebates or other benefits to install a charger.

    Town/Village Requirements

On Long Island, permitting requirements vary depending on where you live and the amount of work you're looking to complete during an EV charger installation.

All electrical work must be done to code, and these codes are handled at the town (such as Hempstead or Babylon) or village (such as Freeport) level. We are a licensed and insured electrician across all of the towns and villages on Long Island, and during our consultation process we can walk you through the process and any permits you may need before beginning work on your home.
