Home & Outdoor Lighting

See the difference for yourself!

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best, and this is truly the case when it comes to transforming a room. You could invest greatly in new furniture, a fresh coat of paint, but ask yourself first: Have you tried new lighting?

Adding recessed lighting (or "hi hats") to your room can turn a tired, dark corner into a bright, exciting space. Best of all, it's easier than ever to do thanks to advancements in LED technology. A few years ago you'd need to fireproof each light installation with a "can", and install specialized bulbs. But now you can use affordable, all-in-one lighting kits which are code-friendly and easy for our technicians to install.

Add ambiance to your backyard or patio

Lighting goes beyond the inside of your home too! If you've ever wanted to add a new level of style and grace to your home's façade or backyard living space, then we highly recommend looking into some of our landscape lighting packages. Once again, LEDs have made many outdoor lighting projects easier than ever to install, thanks to their energy efficiency and miniaturized size.  We can advise on projects of all sizes, from simple path lighting all the way up to whole-property lighting automation.

  • What are my options for indoor lighting?

There are a number of options you can consider during the lighting selection process. We're happy to help you through the process and find the right combination that suits your style and taste.

    Recessed Lighting Size & Temperature

Generally speaking you will find most recessed lighting come in sizes between 4 and 8 inches. The most common size is around 6 inches, which matches up with typical "hi hat" sizes. We typically recommend picking a common light size such as 6 inches as it will make it easier to maintain your lighting over time. You may however want smaller lights to fit more individual lights across your ceiling, depending on your preferences.

You can also choose the temperature, or "color" of your lights. All recessed lights are white, but there are different levels of "warmness" and "coolness" you can choose from to match other lights in your room. Most recessed lighting kits available provide control over color temperature, so you can test out the color in real time right in your home!

    Wireless Lighting & Home Automation

Once you have your recessed lighting installed, it's great to bundle it with a home automation system. When you use a system like Lutron® Caseta, you don't need to buy any special bulbs and you're not locked into a fully digital world. They offer the flexibility of remote controls and wireless automation, but you can still use a regular old switch in your home with it!

    Vanity Lights and Fixtures

Beyond recessed lighting and home automation, you can also pick matching fixtures and vanity bulbs to complete your room's new look and feel. We're happy to help assemble and install fixtures for you along with a recessed lighting project, and we'll gladly make sure your circuits are sufficient for your desired lights.

  • Do I need a permit for lighting projects?

Depending on where you live, different rules apply for the permitting needed to install new lighting.

    Town/Village Requirements

On Long Island, permitting requirements vary depending on where you live and the amount of work you're looking to complete during a lighting project. Typical projects rarely need permits, but keep in mind that outdoor lighting with underground conduit, and projects which involve significant interior alteration may fall under certain permitting rules.

All electrical work must be done to code, and these codes are handled at the town (such as Hempstead or Babylon) or village (such as Freeport) level. We are a licensed and insured electrician across all of the towns and villages on Long Island, and during our consultation process we can walk you through the process and any permits you may need before beginning work on your home.
